Japanese Restaurants

Experience an authentic Japanese cuisine where our attention to service & quality has made us an industry leader where our guests and customers come first.

As soon as you step into a Nippori restaurant, you’re guaranteed an authentic Japanese ramen experience. The chef and owner is Maung Htein Linn and comes from Burma, a country whose varied curries and cuisine are more similar to Thai and Indian cooking than to Japanese.

Born in 1967 in Yangon and working 11 years in Japan, Maung Htein Linn brought his expertise in Japanese cuisine to New York City and opened up his first restaurant in 2011 called Tabata and then a few years later, Nippori. The name “Nippori” comes from Japan and is one of the train stations of a loop line that circles around Tokyo.

“Many customers in my restaurants here are Japanese because they like the non altered authentic Japanese taste.”

Starting from the bottom, he began working in a few Japanese restaurants in New York specializing in ramen before going on his own. Maung Htein Linn envisions one day opening an izakaya 居酒屋 type venue. A kind of Japanese tapas restaurant where customers would start with drinks and appetizer size dishes but conclude with ramen dish at the end of the meal.

With more locations coming soon, Nippori is one of the best ramen places in New York City and should not be missed.
